Tarpon Caye Lodge – Belize

When I first started my Blog I’m not sure there were any bonefishing lodges that offered a DIY component to the traveling angler, certainly none that I knew about.
Now, they are popping up throughout the Caribbean, most offering a combination of guided and non-guided days along with food and accommodation. I always thought this was a logical approach as it seemed to meet the needs of those who sought a different experience than simply a fully guided seven day trip.
I have helped several lodges develop a DIY offering for their clientele and as I write this am working with two more. So there must be a demand for a mix and match type of trip.
I’ve never recommended a lodge before without first experiencing it myself, but I’m about to make an exception. I’ve corresponded with the owners for a couple of months, talked to people that have been there and I generally know the area.
So with the knowledge that I have not personally been there the Tarpon Caye Lodge in Belize looks like the kind of place that was built for me.
The idea of being dropped off with a kayak at a different spot each day, fishing Belize’s beautiful barrier reef for bonefish and permit has got “book me” written all over it.
I’m going to let owner Kevin McDevitt tell you about his DIY offering below but in addition to his description, here is a link to a good article written about the lodge.
As always, I have not received any remuneration for this posting but Kevin has been kind enough to give every reader a special offer.

“Wake up to the best fishing Belize has to offer at your doorstep
Location, location, location! Tarpon Caye Lodge offers excellent DIY fishing opportunities. We are situated in the heart of “Permit Alley” and our lagoon is one of the best tarpon fisheries in all of Belize.
Flexibility! The lodge’s ( 26”) tender can drop you and your kayak at one of your favorite “flats” and pick you up later in the day at a time you chose.
There are also plenty spin fishing opportunities for snapper, wahoo, cuda, jacks and many more species that will keep you occupied and having a fun time all day long.
Belizean food is simple, always fresh and amazing! We feature fresh seafood caught daily but our freindly kitchen staff will cater to your dietary preferences.
